This fish curry has a mixture of roasted ground masala and fresh ground coconut masala which really makes it so yummy..

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Fish-300gms (paarai)
  2. Sesame Oil – 3 tblspn
  3. Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
  4. Sambar Onion – 5 chopped finely
  5. Tomatoes – 1 chopped finely
  6. Curry leaves a handful
  7. Tamarind – a small lemon size
  8. Salt to taste
  9. For Grinding: Coconut – 1 cup grated
  10. Sambar Onion / Shallots – 10
  11. For Roasting & Grinding:
  12. Dry Red Chillies – 8 to 10 or as needed
  13. Coriander Seeds – 2 tblspn
  14. Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Soak tamarind in water and squeeze to remove the pulp. Strain and set aside.
  2. Roast ingredients given for roasting, grind it to a fine paste.
  3. Grind coconut and shallots to a fine paste as well.
  4. Take both the masala in a bowl, add in tamarind juice. Mix well..Masala done.
  5. Heat oil in a kadai. Add in mustard seeds and let them sizzle.
  6. Now add in shallots, tomatoes and curry leaves. Sprinkle some salt and cook for 2 mins or so.
  7. Now add in masala and mix well. Add more water if needed, Cover and simmer till oil separates.
  8. Now add in fish pieces and cook till fish is done. Serve.

It goes well with boiled rice.
