A bengali delicacy much loved for its rich yogurt and poppy seed based gravy

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Pabda fish/ catfish 4
  2. Yogurt 1/4th cup
  3. Poppy seed paste 1/2 cup
  4. Ginger 1 inch cube grated
  5. Green chillies 2
  6. Red chili powder 1 teaspoon
  7. Kashmiri chilli powder 1 teaspoon
  8. Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  9. Salt to taste
  10. Mustard oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Apply salt , turmeric and 1/4th teaspoon of Kashmiri red chilli powder to the fish.
  2. Shallow fry the fish so that it is 3/4th cooked and keep aside.
  3. Next, heat oil in a kadhai and add the green chillies and the grated ginger.
  4. Once the ginger gets golden add the poppy seed paste. Fry well till the oil starts to leave from the sides.
  5. At this stage add the red chilli powder and the remaining Kashmiri red chilli powder, turmeric and salt to taste.
  6. Now add a bit of water and let it simmer for two minutes.
  7. Now add the yogurt to the gravy and mix well. Now slowly add the fried fish to this gravy and cover with a lid. Let it simmer for another two minutes in low flame.
