Spicy lentil curry (bendi)

Ingredients to make Spicy lentil curry (bendi)

  • Black eyed peas - 1/2 cup soaked overnight
  • Grated coconut- 1/2 cup
  • Dry red chillies - 12
  • tamarind- a small piece
  • garlic - 7-8 cloves
  • coconut oil - 2 tsp
  • salt to taste

How to make Spicy lentil curry (bendi)

  1. Cook lentils and keep aside.
  2. Fry red chillies slightly in hot oil and grind along with coconut and tamarind. Keep paste a bit thick.
  3. Heat oil and fry garlic till light brown.
  4. Add the ground paste and stir for 2 mins. Then add the cooked lentils and salt. Check for thickness. Add water if necessary.
  5. Cook till raw smell of coconut goes and the curry starts bubbling, this will take around 10 mins.
  6. Serve hot with rice.

My Tip:

Can be made with any lentils and even vegetables like potatoes. Non vegetarians can add fish or prawns.
