This an typical authentic bengali dish from Kolkata.hilsha is all time favourite for every bengalies.

Ingredients to make Sorse ilish ( hilsha fish cooked in mustard sauce)

  • 4pcs hilsa fish
  • 1tsp kalo jeera or kolonji
  • 1tbsp black mustard powder
  • 1tbsp yellow mustard powder
  • 1tbsp yogurt
  • 1tsp turmeric powder
  • 4-5tbsp mustard oil
  • salt to taste
  • chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

How to make Sorse ilish ( hilsha fish cooked in mustard sauce)

  1. Prepare mustard paste with lil bit of water.
  2. Heat Oil, add kalo jeera and green chillies
  3. Add mustard paste and turmeric powder.
  4. Add yogurt a salt.
  5. Now add water .bring the gravy to a boil.add the fish and cook for sometimes.
  6. add some raw mustard oil and coriander leaves.now it's ready to served.

My Tip:

You can fry the fish and add it instead of adding raw fish.but always use mustard oil.
