Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. To make black uraddal idly :
  2. Black urad dal 3/4 cups
  3. Idly rice 3 cups
  4. Fenugreek seeds 1 teaspoon
  5. Salt to taste
  6. For sesame chutney:
  7. Whole urad dal 1 tablespoon
  8. Sesame seeds 1 tablespoon
  9. Dried Red chilly 3
  10. Tamarind 1 pea size
  11. Grated coconut 1/2 cup
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Gingelly oil 1/2 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Wash and Soak together black urad dal, idly rice and fenugreek seeds with sufficient water for 4 hours
  2. Then drain excess water and grind them in wet grinder / mixie into thick batter.Add salt and mix, then set aside in a warm place to allow it to ferment for around six hours
  3. Grease idly plates with oil and fill the mould with batter . Steam for ten minutes and set aside to cool for few minutes
  4. For sesame chutney , add half teaspoon of oil and roast urad dal, chillies, tamarind and sesame seeds to golden brown.
  5. Grind them along with coconut and salt into fine paste.
  6. Your healthy traditional breakfast is ready to serve
