ABOUT Undrallu - Ganesh Chaturthi Naivedyam RECIPE

This is an Andhra sweet prepared as Naivedyam on Ganesh Chaturthi/ Vinayaka Chavithi (Telugu). These are tasty and one of the favourite dishes of Lord Ganesha.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For the Payasam:
  2. Roasted Green Gram/ Yellow Moong Dal- 1 and 1/2 cup
  3. Water - 3 and 1/2 cups
  4. Grated Jaggery - 1 and 1/2 cup
  5. Sugar - 1 cup
  6. Grated Coconut - 1 cup
  7. Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  8. For the Undrallu:
  9. Rice flour- 1 cup
  10. Sugar- 4 tablespoon
  11. Water- 1 and 1/2 cup

Instructions

  1. For the payasam preparation, wash the roasted green gram/yellow moong dal. Add the water and pressure cook it for 5 minutes after a whistle blows.
  2. In the meanwhile, prepare the undrallu. Take the water in a vessel, add 4 tablespoon of sugar and heat this. Let it come to a boil.
  3. Now, add rice flour to it on a medium flame and cook it for 10 minutes.
  4. Transfer this dough into a plate and make small balls by smearing little oil to your fingers.
  5. Take another pan and heat it on a low flame. Add in the grated jaggery, sugar to it and stir it well.
  6. Once it is boiled, add the grated coconut, pressure cooked yellow moong dal, prepared balls and cardamom powder. Mix it well. Let it cook for 6 minutes on a low flame.
  7. Serve it warm or at a room temperature.
