ABOUT Quick and Easy Chakali RECIPE

Chakali is one of the most favourite dishes of all time. This is a crispy deep fried spiral savoury. In south India it is also called as Murukku.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Rice Flour :: 1 cup
  2. All purpose Flour/ Maida :: 1/2 cup
  3. Ajwain :: 2 tsp
  4. Cumin Seeds :: 2 tsp
  5. Turmeric :: 1 tsp
  6. Red chilly Powder :: 2 1/2 tsp
  7. Curd :: 1/4th cup
  8. Butter :: 11/2 tbsp
  9. Salt to taste
  10. Oil for Deep frying
  11. Water as per required


  1. Take a large bowl and mix rice flour and Maida . Sieve the flours nicely.
  2. Now add Turmeric, Red chilly powder, Cumin seeds, Ajwain and salt and mix it nicely.
  3. Put butter in the mixture and mix it very nicely. Now add curd to the mixture and mix it roughly.
  4. Now start adding water slowly to knead the soft dough. Make it sure that dough is not stiff or hard, if so your chaklis can break.
  5. Keep this dough covered with wet muslin cloth.
  6. Now take star Mould and grease the mould with oil from inside so that the dough doesnt stick to the chakali maker.
  7. Now make a ball of soft dough and put it in the chakli maker. Start making spiral chaklis on a paper.
  8. Heat the oil in a pan and put chakli in the hot oil. Fry the chaklis on medium high flame and till they are golden brown and crispy.
  9. Drain the chaklis on paper and serve them to your guests. I am sure you and your guests will be happy.
