Poppy seed fritters, or postor bora as we call it in Bengali, is an integral part of every day Bengali cuisine.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Poppy seeds 1cup
  2. Onions 2 sliced thinly
  3. Green chillies 3 sliced
  4. Red chilli powder 1 tbspn
  5. Salt to taste
  6. White flour (maida) 1 -2 tbspn
  7. Rice flour 1 - 2 tbspn
  8. Mustard oil 1 tbspn
  9. White oil for frying


  1. Soak the poppy seeds for few minutes.
  2. Grind it with some salt and a green chilli. For best results grind it in silbatta. Somehow the taste enhances when ground this way.
  3. Add onions, green chillies, red chilli powder, salt,mustard oil,maida and rice flour to the paste. Mix well.
  4. Take a handful of the paste and give a shape of flat roundels.
  5. Deep fry or shallow fry them.
  6. Enjoy it as a snack or as an accompaniment with dal and hot piping rice.
