Chinese Orange Chicken

Ingredients to make Chinese Orange Chicken

  • 300 gms breast fillet cut into small pieces
  • For batter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp Corn flour
  • 1 tsp all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp pepper powder
  • salt
  • oil for frying
  • For Sauce
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1/3 cup Orange juice
  • 1 tsp sliced garlic
  • 1 tsp minced ginger
  • 1/2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Dark Soy sauce
  • 2 tsp Corn flour
  • salt
  • 2 tsp chopped spring onions

How to make Chinese Orange Chicken

  1. Make a starch of corn and all purpose flour with 1 tbsp of water
  2. In a bowl add egg, salt, pepper powder, the corn & all purpose flour starch and whisk.
  3. In this bowl add the chicken pieces, mix and allow it marinate for 15 minutes.
  4. After marinating, deep fry the chicken pieces to golden brown colour and keep aside
  5. Preparation of sauce
  6. In a small bowl add light and dark soy sauces, salt, pepper powder, brown sugar, orange juice and stir to mix.
  7. In another bowl add corn flour to 1/4 cup of water to make a slurry starch.
  8. In a heated wok, add oil, ginger, garlic and saute for a minute.
  9. Now add the bowl mixture with the first set ingredients. (soy sauces, orange juice,brown sugar, pepper powder and salt)
  10. Keep stirring so that the mixture gets mixed up with the minced ginger garlic . Allow it to simmer on medium flame for 4 minutes.
  11. Then add the corn starch and mix it to form a uniform mixture. Let it simmer for 3 minutes on medium flame.
  12. By now the sauce should have turned syrupy, Now remove from heat.
  13. Add the fried chicken pieces into the sauce wok and toss so that the pieces gets coated uniformly with the sauce.
  14. Garnish with spring onions.
