Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For Dal:
  2. Sabut moong dal 1/2 cup(soaked in water for 30 minutes)
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon
  5. Red chilli powder 1/4 teaspoon or to taste
  6. Ghee 1 tablespoon
  7. Green chilli 2 slitted
  8. Ginger shredded 1/2 teaspoon
  9. For Dal tempering:
  10. Ghee 2 tablespoons
  11. Garlic chopped 1 tablespoon
  12. Ginger chopped 1/2 tablespoons
  13. Onion chopped 1 large
  14. Tomato chopped 2
  15. Garam masala 1/2 teaspoon
  16. Coriander for garnishing
  17. For Bati:
  18. Wheat flour 2 cups
  19. Semolina 4 tablespoons
  20. Salt 1 tablespoon
  21. Carom seeds 1 teaspoon
  22. Ghee 2 tablespoons
  23. Water for kneading dough
  24. Ghee 1/2 cup for dipping bati
  25. Chopped onion 1
  26. Lemon wedges

Instructions

  1. Take soaked moong dal and put it into a pressure cooker.
  2. Add 4 cups water and add all spices. Add salt, turmeric powder. Add red chilli powder.
  3. Add ghee.
  4. Add slitted green chilli and ginger.
  5. Now close the pressure cooker. Cook for 5 whistles. And after opening cook it on low flame for 10 mintues. If needed add water. Dal is ready..
  6. Now make tadka for this. Add ghee to a pan. Add garlic, ginger, cook for 2 Mintues. Then add chopped onion. Cook till it becomes golden brown. Then add chopped tomatoes. Mix well. Cook till ghee separates.
  7. Add garam masala to this and pour it over dal and mix well. Garnish with coriander.
  8. For Batis:
  9. Mix flour and semolina. Add ghee. Now add carrom seeds. And salt. Mix well.
  10. Now with the help of water make a soft dough . Set aside for 20 mintues.
  11. After 20 mintues again knead it for smooth dough.
  12. Now make round balls from the dough. And preheat the tandoor for 5 minutes.
  13. Now put the Batis into the tandoor for 10 mintues. Or till it becomes crispy and golden.
  14. When these are done. Crush from centre and dip into melted ghee.
  15. Serve it with ghee, chopped onion, lemon wedges and dal.
