  • moong dal– 1 cup
  • Green chilles– 4 nos
  • onion- 1 cut into slices
  • A few curry leaves
  • lemon juice- 2 tbsp
  • oil– 1 tsp
  • mustard- 1/2 tsp

  • asafoetida– 1/2 tsp
  • water- 1 and 1/2 cup and 1 cup more

How to make Nimmakaya Pappucharu

  1. Heat ghee in a pan and fry the moong dal till a nice aroma develops, cut the green chillies into halves and add it to the dal along with 1 and 1/2 cup of water. Cook it till the dal becomes very soft (you can use the pressure cooker for this).
  2. Remove from the heat and mash the dal till it is very smooth, you can also blend it.
  3. Add the sliced onion to the mashed dal and pour in 1 cup of water. Bring this to a boil.
  4. Now add the turmeric powder, lemon juice, curry leaves and salt to taste. Bring it to a boil once again.
  5. Heat oil in a small pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida and let them splutter, then add this to the pappu charu.
  6. Serve this with rice and any dry curry like Aritikaya upma kura or you can enjoy this with a fried egg as well.

My Tip:

You can add finely chopped coriander leaves if you make it of a soup consistency.
