Ingredients to make Onion thokku

  • onion big size 5
  • tamarind pulp 2 tsp
  • oil 2 tab sp
  • red chilli 1
  • Udid dal 1 tsp
  • red chilli powder 2 tsp
  • turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • jaggery powder 2 tsp
  • salt to taste

How to make Onion thokku

  1. Peel the onions,(5 medium sized)cut into cubes. . .
  2. Grind into coarse paste with 2tsp tamarind Pulp.
  3. Heat a nonstick pan, add 2 tb sp oil, add mustard seeds,let them crackle.
  4. Add 1 tsp udid dal, 1 red chilli(split into 2 pieces),curry leaves, then add ground paste.
  5. Cook until the moisture evaporate,add 1 tsp turmeric powder, 3to 4 tsp red chilli powder, salt and saute. Add 1 tsp jaggery powder and cook until jaggery dissolved in it and starts to leave the side. Switch off the flame
  6. After cooling store in an airtight container. Serve with roti,idli,dosa,plain rice,etc

My Tip:

Note Can be stored for 7 to 10 days by keeping in refrigerator.
