A healthy and substantial meal in itself which is high fiber and heart healthy. Feel free to add your choice of veggies like peas, cauliflower etc.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Dalia(Cracked wheat)- 1/2 cup
  2. Mung dal- 1/4 cup
  3. Red split Masoor dal- 1/4 cup
  4. Carrot- 1/4 cup, chopped
  5. French beans- 1/4 cup, chopped
  6. Onion- 1 medium, chopped
  7. Tomato- 1 medium, chopped
  8. Turmeric- 1/4 tsp
  9. Green chilli- 1 chopped
  10. cumin seeds- 1/4 tsp
  11. Asafoetida- a pinch
  12. salt to taste
  13. lemon wedges- 2
  14. Grated ginger- 1/4 tsp
  15. Oil- 1 tbsp
  16. coriander for garnishing


  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker.
  2. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida and ginger and saute for a few seconds.
  3. Add the chopped onion, tomato, green chilli, carrot and french beans and fry for a minute.
  4. Pick, wash and drain the dals and add to the cooker.
  5. Dry roast over low heat.
  6. Add the dalia, along with the turmeric and salt. Roast well for another 2 minutes.
  7. Add about 2 cups water and close the lid of the pressure cooker.
  8. After first whistle, lower heat and let cook for another 2 whistles. Turn off and let rest for 10 minutes.
  9. Serve with a sprig of coriander and some lemon wedges.
