Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Basmati rice - 1 cup
  2. Onion - 1 Big
  3. Double beans - 1/4 cup(soaked overnight incase using frozen)
  4. Green peas - 1/4 cup(optional)
  5. Garam masala powder-1/2 tsp
  6. Coconut milk - 2 cups
  7. Lemon juice -one lemon used.(optional)
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Oil 2 tbspn
  10. Cinnamon 1 stick
  11. Green Cardamom pods 3-4 nos
  12. Cloves 3-4 nos.
  13. 1 large bay leaf
  14. cumin seeds 1 tbspn
  15. For Grinding to paste:
  16. Green chilli - 1
  17. Shallots 4-5 nos.
  18. Fresh ginger-garlic 2 tbspn


  1. Wash and soak basmati rice for 20 minutes. Drain the water completely
  2. Grind ginger, garlic, green chilly and shallots to a fine paste and keep it ready.
  3. Slice onions in thin long pieces
  4. Heat a oil in a pressure cooker. Add cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and cumin and saute for a minute.
  5. Add onions and saute till translucent.
  6. Then add the paste and saute for 2 minutes.
  7. Add beans, peas and salt. Mix well and saute again for 2 minutes.
  8. Stir in the coconut milk and let the mixture come to a boil.(you can dilute some water in the coconut milk if you have a thick variety)
  9. Add the rice, garam masala and lemon juice and cover the lid and cook upto 2 whistles or till the rice is cooked.
  10. Using a pressure cooker enables quick cooking, however you may choose to use a kadai/pan.
  11. Garnish the way to like and serve hot.
