ABOUT Mohanthal RECIPE

Mohanthal is sweet dish prepared during many occasions, especially during Diwali. Mostly every Gujarati family have this dish during wedding and Diwali. it's made with Besan. Many people add khoya in it also.

Ingredients Serving: 7

  1. Gram flour/Besan 2 cups
  2. Sugar 1 and 1/4 cup
  3. Ghee 3/4 cup plus 3 tablespoon
  4. Milk 6 tablespoon
  5. Cardamon/elaichi powder 1 teaspoon
  6. Few strands of saffron
  7. A pinch of yellow food colour
  8. Khus khus 1 tablespoon
  9. Finely chopped almonds and pistachio 2 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Heat 6 tablespoon of milk and 3 tbsp of ghee in a pan and let to cool down
  2. Add sieved Besan into the bowl.
  3. Add mixture of milk and ghee to besan and mix with fingertips till it resembles breadcrumbs,
  4. Press the mixture with fingers
  5. Cover with the lid and keep aside for 45 minutes
  6. Break the lumps lightly with your fingertips and sieve it using a sieve with big holes and keep aside.
  7. Heat the ghee in a deep pan
  8. Add the sieved besan mixture, mix well
  9. Cook on a medium heat till the mixture turns light brown in colour, while stirring continuously.
  10. Add kesar and elaichi powder and mix properly
  11. Remove from the heat and keep aside to cool.
  12. Combine sugar in 1 cup of water in a deep non-stick pan and mix properly and cook while stirring continuously
  13. Add yellow food colour and mix properly
  14. Lower the heat and cook till the syrup is of 1. 5 thread consistency, while stirring occasionally.
  15. Grease a medium size round thali or foil dish with ghee and keep aside
  16. Add the prepared sugar syrup to the cooled besan mixture, mix well
  17. Stir for approximately 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring continuously or till the mixture leaves the sides of pan.
  18. Pour the mixture into it and spread it evenly using a back of steel bowl or spoon
  19. Sprinkle Khus khus, chopped pistachio and alm
  20. Keep it aside let it cool down completely for 30 minutes
  21. Cut them into diamond shapes
  22. Serve them hot hot
