Pea Nimona

Ingredients to make Pea Nimona

  • 500 gms fresh green peas
  • 2 potatoes diced
  • 2-3 tbsp mustard oil
  • 2 medium sized onions
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp hing
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 large tomato
  • 3-4 green chilies
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • salt as per taste
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • water as required
  • 3 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

How to make Pea Nimona

  1. Coarsely grind the 3/4th of green peas and keep it aside
  2. Grind onions to make paste . Separately grind tomato and chilies to form puree
  3. Heat oil in a pan
  4. Add diced potatoes and Fry on medium heat until golden brown and keep it aside
  5. Splutter 1/2 tsp cumin ,1 bay leaf and 1 pinch asafoetida in remaining oil
  6. Add onion paste and mix well
  7. Add 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste and mix well
  8. Saute for 3-4 minutes
  9. Add tomato puree and mix
  10. Add all dry spices and mix well
  11. Saute until oil starts leaving sides.
  12. Add coarsely ground peas and mix well
  13. Cook for 2-3 minutes, add fried potatoes and cook for another 3 minutes
  14. Add 1 cup water or as required , bring to boil
  15. Cover and cook for 4-5 minutes on low heat
  16. Add garam masala and Cook until desired consistency
  17. Add chopped coriander leaves and mix. Serve hot
