Yummy side dish for idli and dosa

Wash and soak dhal for 3 hours.
Blend along with red chilli and salt to a fine paste.
Heat dosa tawa and pour this grounded batter like dosa and drop oil in all the sides.
Turn upside down and drop oil .
Fry till golden brown spots appears and transfer to a plate. By using hand make this in to small pieces and keep it aside.
Heat oil in a pan fry bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves and fry for a second.
Add ginger and garlic paste and fry till aroma comes out. Add onion and saute till translucent.
Now add tomatoes and fry till mushy.
Add chilli powder, coriander powder , turmeric powder and salt .
Now add little water and cook .
Add in the steamed dal and add 2 cups of water.. Mash with a back of a ladle.
Cover this and cook in a medium flame for 10 minutes. By now the gravy must be thickened and will start emitting a nice aroma.
If needed add little water , usually it will be a semi solid gravy.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
