Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 2 cups Chickpeas
  2. 1/2 tsp garam masala
  3. 4 large onions
  4. 2 medium tomatoes
  5. 2 tbsp Chole masala
  6. 4 cloves garlic
  7. 1/2 inch ginger
  8. 4 green chillies
  9. 1/2 cup water
  10. 1/2 tsp green chilli finely chopped
  11. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  12. 1/4 tsp amchur powder
  13. Oil for cooking
  14. Salt to taste


  1. Soak the chickpeas in a bowl of water for 3-4 hours.
  2. Rinse the soaked chickpeas and pressure cook till it becomes tender.
  3. Put tomatoes, onions, green chillies, ginger and garlic in a blender and make a fine puree.
  4. Heat oil in a pan. Add the puree and sauté for a few minutes till the oil starts to leave the sides.
  5. Add chole masala, red chilli powder, amchur powder, green chillies and garam masala.
  6. Cook for a while and add water. Add the chickpeas and stir well. Add salt and simmer on a low flame.
  7. Mash a few chickpeas so that the gravy thickens.
  8. Mix well and serve hot.
