ABOUT Flaxseed Podi Idli RECIPE

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For Idlis:
  2. 1 cup rava (sooji)
  3. 2 tablespoon curd
  4. 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  5. 1 teaspoon salt
  6. 1.5 cups water
  7. For Flaxseed Podi :
  8. 1/2 cup flaxseeds
  9. 1/4 cup chana dal
  10. 1/4 cup peanuts
  11. 1 dry red chilli (broken into two halves)
  12. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  13. 5-6 garlic cloves
  14. 1 teaspoon ghee
  15. For tadka:
  16. 1 teaspoon ghee
  17. 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  18. 1/4 teaspoon hing powder
  19. 7-8 curry leaves
  20. Salt (to taste)
  21. 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder

Instructions

  1. Make a batter for idli using rava, salt, curd and water.
  2. Rest for 30 minutes.
  3. Grease the idli moulds with ghee.
  4. After 30 minutes, add baking soda to the batter. Mix in one direction softly. If the mixture seems too thick, add some more water.
  5. Pour batter in idli moulds.
  6. Steam for around 7-8 minutes.
  7. Take the idli out of moulds.
  8. For preparing flaxseed Podi, dry roast flaxseed, chana daal and Peanuts separately.
  9. Heat a pan. Add 1 teaspoon ghee. Add cumin seeds, dry red chilli and garlic cloves. Saute them.
  10. Add the above mix to grinder along with roasted flaxseed, chana dal and peanuts.
  11. Grind it. Podi is ready.
  12. For preparing tadka, add 1 teaspoon ghee to another pan.
  13. Add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Add hing and curry leaves.
  14. Add salt, red chilli powder and podi to it and mix well.
  15. Add idlis and mix well so that they are properly coated with tadka.
  16. Serve with chutney of your choice.
