Ingredients to make Homemade garam masala

  • coriander seeds-100 gms
  • cumin seeds-100 gms
  • Black pepper-75 gms
  • Green cardamom-40 gms
  • Black cardamom-10 gms
  • Dried ginger-40 gm
  • cloves-20 gm
  • cinnamon sticks-20 gm
  • bay leaves-4
  • nutmeg-1/2
  • Mace leaves(javitri)-4 leaves
  • star anise-10 gms
  • Lichen(Dagadphool)-5 gms
  • Black cumin seeds-10 gms

How to make Homemade garam masala

  1. Dry roast all the spices one by one in a pan at slow heat.
  2. Lightly roast so that the moisture evaporates.Do not let the colours of spices change.
  3. Remove all spices in a bowl to cool.
  4. Grind in a mixer jar on cooling.Grind to a fine powder.
  5. Now sieve it.
  6. Grind again if some thick residue is there.
  7. Fill the sieved aromatic garam masala in airtight bottles and enjoy the flavors in various dishes throughout the year.

My Tip:

In recipes where we use 1/2 tsp garam masala,you will require only 1/4 of this one.
