ABOUT Chettinad Chicken RECIPE

A South Indian authentic recipe of chicken made with spices and coconut. A recipe of the region Chettinad of South India.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1/2 kg of chicken
  2. 1 tablespoon of red chilli powder
  3. 1/2 tablespoon of black pepper powder
  4. 1 tablespoon of garam masala powder
  5. 3-4 tablespoon of grated coconut
  6. 1 handful of curry leaves
  7. 3 tablespoon of yogurt
  8. 2 onions chopped
  9. ginger 1 inch
  10. garlic 7-8 pods
  11. 1 tablespoon of fennel seeds
  12. chopped tomato 1
  13. 2 tablespoon of chopped coriander leaves
  14. 2 tablespoon of lemon juice
  15. oil 5-6 tablespoon
  16. 1/2 tablespoon of mustard seeds
  17. 1 onion sliced
  18. 2-3 green chillies

Instructions

  1. Marinate chicken with lemon juice, red chilli powder, salt and turmeric powder for 30 minutes
  2. Sauté the onion, ginger garlic, tomato, coconut, fennel seeds in 3 tablespoon of oil till soft. Make a smooth paste of it in a grinder
  3. Now heat oil in a kadai and Temper mustard seeds, curry leaves and sliced onions
  4. Sauté the onions till soft
  5. Add the marinated chicken in it and sauté for few minutes then add the grinder paste in it and boil for 5 minutes
  6. Add 2-3 cups of water, 2-3 green chillies and cook covering with a lid
  7. Boil till the chicken pieces are cooked and turns into a gravy
  8. Serve with chopped coriander leaves
