ABOUT Spicy Tomato Curry or Bhaji RECIPE

In this curry, the main ingredient is tomato which is been cooked using some Indian spices and onion. This is a traditional Maharashtrian recipe which is very popular in Maharashtra and Konkan region. Goes well with Chapati, dal rice or Bhakari. Quick and easy to prepare, requires few ingredients. Usually prepared using spicy red chilli powder.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. tomato finely chopped –4 large
  2. onion finely chopped – 1 large or 2 medium size
  3. cumin seeds – ½ tsp
  4. Mustard Seeds – 1tsp
  5. Curry leaves – 5-6
  6. garlic minced – 1 ½ tsp
  7. Green chili slit – 2–3
  8. Garam masala – 1tsp
  9. Red chili powder – 1 ½ tsp
  10. turmeric – 1tsp
  11. coriander powder – 1tsp
  12. Roasted peanut – 1 ½ tbsp
  13. coriander leaves finely chopped – 2-3 tbsp
  14. salt to taste
  15. oil – 2tbsp


  1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan.
  2. Add cumin, mustard seeds. Let it splutter.
  3. Add curry leaves. Stir.
  4. Add minced garlic and slit green chilli. Cook till raw aroma goes away.
  5. Now add finely chopped onion and salt. Cook till translucent.
  6. Add finely chopped tomatoes. Mix well and cook on a low flame until tomatoes become mushy and soft.
  7. Add all dry masalas, Turmeric, coriander powder, red chilli powder, garam masala and chopped coriander leaves. Mix well let it cook for 1-2 minutes.
  8. Add roasted peanuts. Mix well.
  9. Serve hot with chapati, naan or dal rice.
