Mexican Sopaipillas

Ingredients to make Mexican Sopaipillas

  • all purpose flour 1 cup or 200 gms
  • Baking powder 1/2 tsp
  • salt 1/2 tsp
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying + 1 tsp
  • Warm water to knead the dough
  • honey as required
  • Powdered sugar as required

How to make Mexican Sopaipillas

  1. In a mixing bowl add all purpose flour, Baking powder and salt and mix well.
  2. Add 1 tsp Vegetable oil and combine till it crumbles.
  3. Add warm water in little quantities and prepare soft yet firm dough.Cover the mixing bowl with damp cloth and set aside for 20 minutes.
  4. After the dough is rested, in a clean surface roll the dough with the help of rolling pin by dusting the flour whenever required. Rolled dough should be little thick than dough rolled for making chapathi.
  5. Cut it into desired shape. Traditionally the dough is cut into triangles.
  6. In a deep frying pan add oil and when it is hot reduce the flame to medium. Deep fry the sopaipillas both the sides evenly till crisp and golden brown.
  7. Top fried sopaipillas with powdered sugar and also you can top it with honey but it is optional.
  8. While serving sopaipillas open the top portion of it and fill with generous amount of honey.Delicious sopaipillas is ready to serve.
