ABOUT Gatte ki sabji RECIPE

Nice and soft gatte ki sabji, a curry made with gram flour dumplings to be served with pulao or rice.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Ingredients for Gatte
  2. Besan 1 cup
  3. Onion 1 finely chopped
  4. Green chilli 2
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Turmeric powder 1/2tsp
  7. Coriander powder 1/2tsp
  8. Red chilli powder 1/2 tsp
  9. Garam masala 1 tsp
  10. Curd 1/2 cup
  11. For the gravy:
  12. 1 onion medium finely chopped
  13. 2 tomatoes puree
  14. 1 green chilli
  15. 1/2 inch ginger
  16. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  17. 1/2tsp coriander powder
  18. 1/2tsp garam masala
  19. Pinch of hing
  20. Salt to taste
  21. Coriander leaves to garnish


  1. First take a bowl. Put besan, onion, green chilli, salt, curd and all dry spice powders.
  2. Mix well and knead a hard dough like we make for puri.
  3. Then make small balls and make it into cylindrical shape..
  4. Take a pan and put water in it. Add little oil and pinch of salt in it.
  5. When starts to boil put that cylindrical shape dumplings in it and let it boil for few minutes.
  6. When it rises up then remove it from the water. Keep aside to cool.
  7. Cut it into small pieces and deep fry them till golden brown in colour
  8. Take another pan. Put oil and atdd finely chopped onion. Saute it till it turns light golden colour.
  9. Then add pinch of hing. Add tomato puree and finely chopped green chilli and ginger. Add salt and all the dry spice powders.
  10. Mix well and add water
  11. Let it boil for few minutes
  12. Then add Gatte in the gravy and simmer for 10 mins covered.
  13. Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with roti.
