Barnyard millet pongal/ Kuthiravali pongal

Ingredients to make Barnyard millet pongal/ Kuthiravali pongal

  • Kuthiraivali / Barnyard millet – 1 cup
  • Yellow moong dal – 1/2 cup
  • salt to taste
  • water – 4 cup
  • ghee – 1 tsp
  • For Tempering:
  • ghee – 4 tblspn
  • cumin Seeds – 2 tsp
  • Whole pepper – 2 tsp
  • green chillies – 2 chopped finely
  • ginger – 1 tblspn
  • curry leaves – a sprig

How to make Barnyard millet pongal/ Kuthiravali pongal

  1. Wash dal and millet really well. Drain it and set aside
  2. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. Add in dal, roast till golden. 
  3. Add in millet along with water and salt. Pressure cook fo 3 whistle. 
  4. Simmer for 5 mins. Turn off the heat and let them steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and mix well
  5. Heat ghee in a pan. Add in all the ingredients for tempering. Mix well
  6. Add the cooked dal millet and mix well. Serve with sambar  or chutney.
