Ingredients to make Pita bread

  • 2 cups whole all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Luke warm water as required

How to make Pita bread

  1. IN A BOWL ADD 1 TSP DRY YEAST, 1 TBSP POWDER SUGAR AND 3/4 CUP LUKE WARM WATER
  2. MIX WELL AND KEEP ASIDE FOR 15 MINUTES
  3. IT HAS BECOME FROTHY
  4. IN 2 CUPS OF ALL PURPOSE FLOUR ADD 3/4 CUP WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR AND 1 TSP SALT
  5. ADD YEAST WATER
  6. KNEAD INTO A SOFT DOUGH USING LITTLE WATER AT A TIME
  7. TRANSFER ON A FLOURED SURFACE
  8. KNEAD FOR 5-7 MINUTES
  9. DOUGH SHOULD BE SOFT, GREASE THE BOWL WITH 1 TBSP OIL
  10. TURN DOUGH AROUND IN BOWL TO COVER WITH A THIN FILM OF OIL
  11. COVER WITH SOLPHIN SHEET AND LET SIT UNTIL DOUGH HAS DOUBLED IN SIZE, ABOUT 2 HOURS.
  12. REMOVE DOUGH FROM BOWL AND PLACE ONTO A FLOURED WORK SURFACE.
  13. LIGHTLY PAT INTO A FLAT SHAPE ABOUT 1 INCH THICK
  14. USE A KNIFE TO CUT DOUGH INTO PIECES.
  15. FORM EACH PIECE INTO A SMALL ROUND BALL WITH A SMOOTH TOP
  16. COVER DOUGH BALLS WITH LIGHTLY WET MUSLIN CLOTH
  17. ROLL OUT THE BALLS INTO FLAT, ROUND BREAD ABOUT 1/4 INCH THICK
  18. LET IT REST FOR 10 MINUTES
  19. COOK ON HOT TAWA ON MEDIUM HEAT
  20. FLIP IT
  21. COOK FROM BOTH SIDES
  22. COOK FROM ALL SIDES
  23. SOFT PITA BREADS ARE READY
  24. CUT THE BREADS IN HALF AND OPEN THE POCKET INSIDE FOR STUFFING.
