It is a very authentic dish of tamil nadu.. it cures the cold.. which is also called as marunthu kuzhambu.. my mother will give this when ever we get cold..

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Small onions/shallots - 10
  2. Mustard -1 tsp
  3. Garlic -2
  4. Whole pepper - 3tsp
  5. Tamarind - lemon size
  6. Salt - as required
  7. Gingely oil - 3tsp
  8. Water - as required


  1. Soak the tamarind in water.. Then in a pan / kadai add 1tsp gingely oil .. when it gets hot add garlic fry it till it get soft and lastly add whole pepper wait till it get splutter. Allow this to cool down.
  2. Grind the garlic and pepper with some water in to a paste. Keep aside
  3. In the same pan add 2 tsp gingely oil add mustard seeds ,wait till it get splutter and then followed by small onions.. fry till it get light brown colour.
  4. Now add tamarind pulp and make them to boil. When it get till thichker add chilly powder and salt and boil for few more minutes
  5. Lastly,add the garlic and pepper paste and boil for 5 mins and serve hot with rice.
