Patra poda is one of the traditional dish of Odisha. Fish is good for health with full of protein.Many kind of preparation can be done of Bhetki fish.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. vetki fish fillet three pieces
  2. shredded coconut 1 1/2 cup
  3. Black mustard seeds 1 tablespoon
  4. green chilli 10 pieces
  5. mustard oil for tablespoon
  6. Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  7. Lemon juice 1 teaspoon
  8. salt as per taste
  9. Lotus leaf three pieces
  10. Cotton thread


  1. The fillet of Bhetki fish should be washed and clean. Then add1/4 teaspoon salt and one teaspoon lemon juice and marinate it for 15 minutes.
  2. Soak mustard seeds in little warm water for 10 minutes. Then drain out the water. blend together mustard seeds, green chillies ,shredded coconut and some little salt to make a coarse paste using little water.
  3. Take a bowl add 2 tbsp mustard oil 1 teaspoon turmeric powder coconut- mustard paste, salt ( as per taste).Mix all the ingredients very well with Bhetki fillet. keep it aside for 30 minutes.
  4. Wash the Lotus leaf under running water. Taking a leaf on a plate put some Mustard oil and rub with hands properly. Then put 1 pcs marinated Bhetki fillet with coconut puree, 1 pcs slitted green chilli & some mustard oil.
  5. Fold the leaf to make it a square parcel and tie with cotton thread. Tie all the Bhetki fillet by this way.
  6. Heat the pan and add 1 tablespoon mustard oil on it. Put the paturi and then fry it for 5 minutes in low flam. Cover the lid.
  7. After 5 minutes turnover and cook for 5 minutes again with covered the lid.
  8. Switch of the gas.cover it for 5 minutes & keep it for standing time.vetki fish paturi is ready.
  9. serve it hot with hot steam rice.
