In Goa the staple food is rice. People eat half the rice with either fish curry or vegetable curry or dal. The remaining half we eat with coconut kadi with kokam as it helps in digestion. There are different types of coconut kadi depending on the ingredients that are used for grinding along with the coconut. This recipe makes use of carrom seeds and red chilli

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Fresh grated coconut 1 cup
  2. Carrom seeds 1/2 tsp
  3. Red chilli 1
  4. water 1 cup
  5. salt to taste
  6. Kokam 4 pieces


  1. Soak kokam in water for half an hour
  2. Grind coconut with carrom seeds, red chilli and sufficient water
  3. Using a strainer squeeze out all the juice
  4. Repeat the above 2 steps two more times so that all the juice is extracted from the mixture
  5. Add it to the soaked kokam and add salt to taste
