Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. For koftas
  2. Lauki - 1/2 kg
  3. Onions - 2
  4. Haldi - 1 tspn
  5. Chilli powder - 1 tspn
  6. Pepper powder - 1/4 tspn
  7. Garam masala(optional) - 1/4 tspn
  8. Gram flour - 4 tspn
  9. For gravy
  10. Bay leaf -2
  11. Red chillies - 2
  12. Cumin seeds -1 tspn
  13. Onion ginger garlic puree- 1 cup
  14. Tomato puree -1/2 cup
  15. Chopped onions -1
  16. Salt
  17. Haldi -1 tspn
  18. Chilli powder - 1 tspn
  19. Dhaniya powder -1/2 tspn
  20. Pepper powder -1/2 tspn
  21. Garam masala - 1/2 tspn
  22. Water - 2 cups

Instructions

  1. Grate the lauki
  2. Add haldi, chilli powder
  3. Add gram flour, salt, pepper powder to the mixture
  4. Mix well and add chopped onions.
  5. Make balls with the mixture and deep fry them
  6. Deep fry till they become golden brown. Keep them aside.
  7. Now in a mixer grinder, grind onions, ginger and garlic to form a fine paste
  8. Heat oil, add cumin seeds, bay leaf, red chillies and saute
  9. Once they crackle, add chopped onions. Cook till they become translucent
  10. Meanwhile, prepare mixture of masala by adding haldi, chilli powder, dhaniya powder, garam masala, pepper powder and little water.
  11. Add the masala to the cooked onions and cook for 5 min
  12. Cook till they turn golden brown
  13. Now the grinded onions-ginger garlic puree and mix well
  14. Add tomato puree and cook for 10 min
  15. When the masala is reduced and color changes add salt
  16. Add sufficient water to mix properly
  17. Slowly add the fried koftas, allow them for one boil by covering. Then switch off the flame
  18. Lauki ka kofta is ready.
