Lauki Kofta

Ingredients to make Lauki Kofta

  • lauki grated 1 kg
  • besan 1 cup
  • Lal mirch powder 1 tsp
  • haldi powder 1 tsp
  • namak as required
  • water for gravy as required
  • dahi for gravy (1/2 to 1 cup)
  • tomatoes 5 big
  • onions 4 big
  • garlic 7 buds
  • oil for frying and tadka
  • jeera 1 tsp
  • hing a pinch

How to make Lauki Kofta

  1. Wash and grate the Lauki and squeeze to get rid of any water. Hang in a muslin cloth for a few minutes.
  2. Take a blender add tomatoes, garlic and onions. Make a fine paste.
  3. Take a wide bowl add in the grated Lauki and half of all the dry masalas and make a thick batter.
  4. Take a wok, add sufficient oil for frying the koftas till it turns golden.
  5. In another wok add oil. When it heats up add jeera and hing.
  6. Add paste from blender and add remaining half dry Masala and let it cook.
  7. When it becomes slightly thick add dahi in it. Add Kofta before half an hour of having it.
  8. Serve with chapati.

My Tip:

Dahi will change gravy's color and taste. If you add Kofta early then it will become soggy and melt in the gravy. Add Kofta half an hour before serving.
