This is an typical authentic bengali dish. bengalis are very fond of posto or poppy seeds.it can be either with veg or non veg mixed with poppy seeds paste.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Prawn 250g
  2. Onion chopped 1
  3. Kolonji or kalo jeera 1tsp
  4. Dry chillies 2
  5. 1bay leaf
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Turmeric powder 1tsp
  8. Green chillies 2
  9. Sugar 1pinch
  10. Mustard oil 4-5spoons
  11. Posto or poppy seeds paste 1/2 bowl
  12. Coriander leaves handfuls chopped


  1. Heat oil in a pan, put kolonji and dry chillies, bay leaf.
  2. Add chopped onions and saute till it turns golden.
  3. Add prawn , then turmeric powder and Salt,Sugar.
  4. Saute for some time and then add poppy seeds paste.mix it well.
  5. Add green chillies and cover it for 5-10mints.
  6. Finally add chopped coriander and raw mustard oil.serve it with hot steamed rice.
