Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Onion (thinly sliced) – 3 (medium size)
  2. Green chilli – 2(chopped)+2wholr for garnishing
  3. Poppy seed – 4tablespoons
  4. Turmeric Powder – ¼ teaspoon
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Cooking oil (preferably mustard oil) – 2 tablespoons+1/2teaspoon
  7. Garlic -4cloves
  8. Nigella seeds-1/2teaspoon


  1. Grind poppy seeds dry in a grinder,then add little water and grind,then again open the lid,mix all poppy seeds paste with finger,add little water and grind until to make a fine paste.Slit remaining green chillies and keep aside. Add onion and fry till it turns light brown. Add turmeric powder, salt and slit green chillies, mix well and cook for couple of minutes. Then add poppy seed paste .
  2. Now heat oil in a frying panover medium heat.
  3. Temper the oil with garlic cloves,chopped green chilies and kalonji seeds.
  4. Add onion slices,fry until light brown,
  5. Add salt and turmeric
  6. Add poppy seeds paste, and give it a good stir. Keep stirring until raw flavour of poppy seed disappears and oil comes out from the mixture, add little amount of water if required
  7. Switch off the flame.Sprinkle oil on top,garnish with slited green chilies .
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice
