ABOUT Aval Paagu / Poha Cashew Kheer RECIPE

This is a traditional village style payasam or kheer made in south india. We use mud pots to prepare this .It is a very simple as well as rich dessert

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Thin poha 1 cup
  2. Jaggery 1 cup
  3. Milk 3 cups
  4. Cashews 10 + 6
  5. Cardamom powder 1/2 teaspoon
  6. Ghee 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Wash poha once with water and drain.Let it rest for fifteen minutes. Soak ten cashews in hot water for ten minutes
  2. In a kadai add milk and poha and allow it to boil in medium flame until poha is well cooked
  3. In the meanwhile grind the soaked cashew into a fine paste.Also boil jaggery with little water and filter the impurities.
  4. Add the cashew paste , filtered jaggery syrup and cardomom powder and cook for few more minutes.
  5. Finally roast remaining cashews in ghee and add to the kheer
