Capsicum Gotsu

Ingredients to make Capsicum Gotsu

  • capsicum - 2 large, cut into cubes
  • green chillies - 4 , finely chopped
  • mustard seeds -1tsp
  • methi seeds - 1tsp
  • Channa dal - 1tsp
  • curry leaves - a handful
  • asafoetida - A Pinch
  • turmeric powder - 1tsp
  • red chilli Powder - 2 Tsp
  • coriander powder - 3 tsp
  • jaggery - powdered, 2 tsp
  • tamarind - a lemon sized ball
  • salt to taste
  • oil for tempering

How to make Capsicum Gotsu

  1. In a pan, heat the oil and add the mustard seeds.
  2. Once they start to crackle, add the channa dal, methi seeds,curry leaves and asafoetida.
  3. Next, add the capsicum and green chillies.
  4. Add all the spice powders, salt and mix well.
  5. Saute the capsicum for a minute.
  6. Add the extracted tamarind water to the pan.
  7. Cover the lid and bring it to a boil.
  8. Once it boils, add the jaggery to it.
  9. You can adjust the consistency with a little rice flour mixed with water, if it's too runny. Let this boil for another minute.
  10. Turn off the heat and serve hot with rice or pongal.
