Katte pongali a traditional andhra style rice and moongdal recipe.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1cup rice
  2. 1cup moongdal yellow
  3. 4tbsp ghee
  4. 1tbsp cumin seeds
  5. 3green chillies 1spoon ginger
  6. 10 curry leaves
  7. 1 tbsp black pepper powder
  8. Pinch of hing
  9. water 4 cups
  10. Cashew nuts 20
  11. Salt 2tbsp


  1. Rice and dal to a cooker wash them at least 2 times.
  2. Pour 4 cups water,add salt.it cooking in cooker cook 2 whistles an medium flame.
  3. When the pressure goes off open the lid.
  4. If you want it to be soft still press the rice with a spoon several times.it should not be runny or dry.
  5. Heat panoorin ghee and cheera,pepper,chilli,ginger pieces curry leaves. Roast 20 seconds add in the cooker rice,dal mixture to the pan.saute five minutes.
  6. Garnish with fried cashew nuts and serve pongal warm.
  7. Serve pong al with chutny or sambar.
