Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. 3 tbsp Cardamom powder
  2. 3 eggs
  3. 2 egg yolks
  4. 1/4 cup strong coffee
  5. 2 cups all purpose flour
  6. 1.5 cups sugar
  7. 3/4 cup sour cream
  8. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  9. 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  10. 220g soft unsalted butter
  11. 1 tbsp Sprig vanilla extract
  12. For Coffee Buttercream Frosting
  13. 420g soft unsalted butter
  14. 2 teaspoon Sprig Vanilla extract
  15. 3 cups Icing sugar
  16. 1/4 cup cold strong coffee
  17. 1/4 teaspoon salt


  1. All the ingredients mentioned in the recipe should be at room temperature. Preheat oven to 170 and line two 8 inch cake pans
  2. In a bowl, whisk eggs, egg yolks, coffee, vanilla extract and sour cream
  3. In a separate bowl, sieve flour, baking soda and salt. Add cardamom and sugar. Mix well
  4. Slowly add butter and blend flour mixture until entire mixture resembles coarse sand
  5. Slowly add wet ingredients and blend until just combined
  6. Divide the batter equally and pour into prepared pans. Level evenly
  7. Bake for 25-35 minutes until done
  8. Allow to cool for 30 minutes. Demould and cool both cakes completely. Cling wrap cakes and chill for 30 minutes . Unwrap and slice top layer to level evenly for frosting
  9. Prepare Frosting: in a big bowl, add butter and blend well
  10. Gradually add icing sugar and blend well
  11. Add coffee, vanilla extract and salt. Blend well
  12. Place first cake over serving plate. Cover top evenly with frosting. Place second layer and now completely coat it. Chill cake for 1 hour
  13. Do final coating and decorations as desired
  14. Slice and serve
