Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Chickpeas 250 grams
  2. Onion 2 pureed
  3. Garlic cloves 8 crushed
  4. Tomato 3 pureed
  5. Green chillies 2 crushed
  6. Chole masala 2 tbsp
  7. Oil 3 tbsp
  8. Bay leaf 1
  9. Hing a pinch
  10. Tamarind paste 1 tbsp
  11. Jeera 1 tsp
  12. Ginger 1 tsp crushed
  13. Red chilli powder as preferred
  14. Salt as per taste
  15. Whole red chilli 1


  1. Soak the chole overnight Boil with water and salt and a pinch of soda bicarbonate for 6 whistles.
  2. When done separate water and chickpeas.
  3. In a pan heat oil. Add jeera and bay leaf. Later add hing. Add the whole chilli.
  4. Add in pureed onion tomato green chillies ginger and garlic.
  5. Add the chole masala salt and red chilli powder
  6. Add some water and cook covered until oil is seen on top.
  7. Add the chickpeas and mix well
  8. Add the boiled water and more water as desired.
  9. Simmer for 10 minutes on high heat. Lower the heat. Add in tamarind paste and cook for another 5 to 6 minutes on slow heat.
  10. Switch off heat and garnish with chopped coriander leaves
