Banana flower dishes are a very nutritious kerala rustic delicacy.It is rich in fibre and various other nutrients.Making cutlet out of it enhances its taste and it is a tasty healthy snack.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Banana Flower - 1
  2. Potatoes - 3 large ones
  3. Ginger garlic paste 2tablespoon
  4. Green chilli chopped - 1/2 cup
  5. Curry leaves chopped - 1/2 cup
  6. Onion -2large
  7. Turmeric Powder -1/2 tsp
  8. Salt - accordingly
  9. Garam masala - 1tsp
  10. Cumin seeds - 2tsp
  11. Fennel Seeds - 1tsp
  12. Coriander powder - 2 tsp
  13. Kasuri methi powder - 1 tsp
  14. Bread or Rusk crumbs
  15. Maida/corn flour/egg white


  1. Peel the banana flower and take only the white portion inside it.
  2. Chop it finely and wash and drain it.
  3. Boil the potatoes and mash it.
  4. Make ginger garlic paste.
  5. Chop the onions, green chillies and curry leaves.
  6. In a wide kadai,pour necessary quantity of refined oil and splutter cumin seeds and fennel seeds.
  7. Then add ginger garlic paste,chopped green chillies and curry leaves.
  8. Then add onions with a pinch of salt.When the onions become translucent add all the powders.
  9. Then add the mashed potatoes and chopped banana flower and mix it finely.
  10. Then close it with a lid and cook for 3-4mins in low flame.
  11. Then let the mixture cool in room temperature.
  12. Take a deep kadai and pour necessary quantity of refined oil for deep frying. You can also make pattice out of it by roasting it on a pan. Shape the cutlets out of the mixture according to your choice.
  13. Dip the cutlets in maida/corn flour / egg mixture and then roll it in bread crumbs.
  14. Then deep fry it.
