Ingredients to make #Homemade Smileys

  • Boiled potatoes (refrigerated) 4 big sized
  • cornflour 4 tsp, heaped
  • Cheese Cubes 2
  • salt 1/2 tsp
  • oil to fry

How to make #Homemade Smileys

  1. Peel and mash the refrigerated boiled potatoes. Add in the grated cheese cube, salt and cornflour, mash it well.
  2. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and make neat balls. Flatten each ball to form a tikki shape that is not very thin. Now flatten the sides of the tikki by tapping on a plain surface. Make eye holes with the help of a thick straw and make the smile impressions with the tip of a spoon.
  3. Heat oil in a wok. Half fry all the smileys. The oil shouldn't be too hot or the smileys will change colour. Fry them just for a minute or two.
  4. On cooling, pack them in a plastic bag and store in a deep freezer. Use as and when required. Just remove from the freezer and deep fry till crisp.

My Tip:

The potatoes should be refrigerated, else the smileys will never come crisp. Avoid using potatoes that are sweet in taste. To make smileys falahari for navratri, replace cornflour with samo rice powder.
