Lovely on a cold winter evening to warm you up and drive the sniffles away. very effective in treating coughs and cold.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. semolina 1 cup
  2. Mashed ripe bananas 1 cup
  3. ghee half cup
  4. Unsalted butter 2 tbsp
  5. Chopped figs half cup
  6. almond slivers 2 tbsp
  7. raisins 2 tbsp
  8. clove powder 14 tsp
  9. Green cardamom powder 14 tsp
  10. cinnamon powder 14 tsp
  11. Milk 1 cup
  12. water 3 Cups
  13. saffron a few strands soaked in a tbsp of warm milk
  14. sugar 34 cup


  1. Keep all the ingredients prepared and ready at hand.
  2. Heat ghee in a heavy bottomed pan.
  3. In a pan boil water, milk, saffron and sugar together
  4. To the hot ghee add the semolina and roast on low heat for 4-5 mins to get an even golden colour
  5. Add the mashed bananas now and continue cooking for a minute.
  6. Add the nuts, figs, raisins and spices and continue cooking making sure that the mix does not stick to the bottom.
  7. Now pour in the milk, water and sugar mix and continue to stir on high heat till all liquid has been absorbed and the halwa is nicely thick and glossy.
  8. In the end add the butter. Cook for another minute and take off the flame.
  9. Serve hot garnished with extra nuts.
