Sweets are centric to celebrations and kaala jamuns are a all time favourite. These black beauties ,melt in mouth sweets are just perfect for any celebration or festival.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Khoya 2 cups
  2. Paneer (cottage cheese) 1 cup
  3. Maida (all purpose flour) 1/2 cup
  4. Semolina (suji) 1 tbsp
  5. Sugar 1/2kg
  6. Cardomon (elachi) 10 to12
  7. Baking soda 1/4 tsp
  8. Cashew nuts 6 to 7 (chopped)
  9. Red food colour 1 pinch
  10. Water 250 ml
  11. Ghee for frying


  1. Mix cottage cheese, semolina, baking soda,2 tsp powdered sugar ,1/2tsp cardomon powder, khoya and flour .Make a soft dough with the help of your palms. keep aside
  2. Make stuffing for the jamuns. Crush the cashew nuts,mix a little sugar powder ,food color ,elachi powder and a small amount of the jamun dough. mix all together.
  3. In a pot boil sugar ,water and add elchi powder. Boil until you get a sticky feeling between your fingers when you u touch the syrup
  4. Divide the dough into equal portions and take one portion .Make a dent and fill a small portion of the filling and close it and give a round shape .Proceed to make all the balls.
  5. In heavy bottom pan heat ghee ,fry the jamuns in medium to low heat constantly stirring the jala jamuns untill you get a black colour. Fry all the kala jamuns in batches.
  6. Dip the kala jamuns in the sugar syrup for about 1/2 hour to get soft juicy kala jamuns. Serve warm or chilled as per your liking.
