About Zeera rice Recipe

This tasty rice dish is very easy to prepare, its unique flavour is loved all across India.

Zeera rice

Ingredients to make Zeera rice

  • 250 grams basmati rice (long grained)
  • 2 tablespoon ghee
  • 2 tablespoon cumin seeds
  • 2 medium sized onions finely sliced
  • oil to deep fry
  • salt to taste

How to make Zeera rice

  1. Take a pan, heat the oil in it and deep fry the onion slices till they turn a beautiful golden brown colour.
  2. Put these onion slices onto a plate and drain the excess oil with paper towels. Keep aside.
  3. Wash and soak the rice for 10 minutes before cooking.
  4. Take a pot and pour in 2 and ½ cups of water. Bring this to a boil.
  5. In the meantime, take a large pan and heat the ghee, fry the cumin seeds in it.
  6. Once the cumin seeds start to crackle, put in the rice. Sauté and cook for 4-5 minutes.
  7. Then pour in the boiling hot water. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  8. Then add the salt according to taste. Cover with a lid and let cook for 10-12 minutes or till the rice is done.
  9. Serve hot with a garnish of fried onions on top.
