BREAD LASAGNA!! A good alternative to the 'not so easily' available lasagna sheets. Absolutely mouth watering and a crowd pleaser. The recipe of spinach filling has been adapted from rak's kitchen.

Bread Lasagna

Ingredients to make Bread Lasagna

  • Bread slices - 8
  • Red sauce as needed (homemade or store bought)
  • White sauce as needed
  • Mozzarella cheese as needed
  • For spinach filling:
  • 1 cup - chopped spinach
  • 2 cloves - garlic (chopped)
  • hung curd - 2 tbsp
  • Paneer/ cottage cheese - 1/4 cup
  • Cheese - 1/4 cup
  • pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  • chilly flakes - 1/2 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • butter - 1 tsp
  • For the white sauce:
  • 1 tbsp - maida/flour
  • 2 tbsp - butter
  • 1/2 cup - milk
  • 1/2 tsp - pepper powder
  • salt as per taste

How to make Bread Lasagna

  1. Prepare the spinach filling: Heat butter in a pan, add garlic, saute it for a few seconds and add spinach. Saute spinach on full flame. Once it reduces in quantity, add salt and pepper. Mix well and switch off the flame.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and let it cool. Once its cooled, add cheese, hung curd, paneer and chilly flakes to the spinach. Mix everything well and keep aside.
  3. For the white sauce: Heat a pan, add butter and 1 tbsp of all purpose flour. Mix well. Start adding milk to it, stir nicely and ensure no lumps are formed. Cook on medium flame. Add salt and pepper. Mix.
  4. Switch off the flame when the sauce turns a little thick. Keep aside and let it cool. (You can increase the milk quantity as per the thickness and quantity of the sauce you want)
  5. Now the assembling part, take an oven safe bowl in which you are planning to bake your lasagna. Clean it nicely and spread some white sauce on it (a thin layer).
  6. Now put one bread slice over the white sauce spread and apply one layer of red sauce on the other side of the bread.
  7. Put the 2nd bread slice above the red sauce spread. Now put half of the spinach filling on the slice and cover it with the third bread slice.
  8. Apply some red sauce to the third bread slice and finally cover with last bread slice applying some white sauce above it.
  9. Sprinkle generous amount of mozzarella on it. Bake in a preheated at 150 to 180 degree celsius oven for 10 minutes or till the cheese starts to turn brown. Serve hot.

My Tip:

You can chose the type of bread you like.
