When I was googling to know about some regional American desserts, this funnel cake caught my attention immediately. While going through the recipe, I found that this cake calls for frying and the gadget used for making this dangerously addictive funnel cake is called a Funnel. Funnel is a tube or a pipe with a wide top and narrow bottom which is usually used to pour liquid or powder into a small opening.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 2 cups All purpose flour
  2. 2 cups Milk
  3. 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  4. 1 Egg (beaten)
  5. 1/2 tsp salt
  6. 1 tsp Baking powder
  7. 2 tbsp Sugar
  8. 4 tbsp melted butter
  9. Powdered sugar for topping
  10. Oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Beat the milk, egg, vanilla in a bowl. Take the flour, salt, baking powder, sugar in a large bowl.
  2. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, beat the mixture until it turns a smooth batter. Meanwhile heat the oil for deep frying.
  3. Fold in the melted butter, pour the batter into a funnel or a squeeze bottle, if you are using funnel, using your index finger stop the flow of the batter through the hole.
  4. Bring the funnel over the hot oil, release the finger and move the funnel in circle to create round shaped cakes.
  5. Fry on both sides until this funnel cake turns golden brown and puffed.
  6. Sprinkle the powdered sugar on the top and serve immediately.
