Ingredients to make Kolkols

  • all purpose flour - 2 cups
  • Fine rawa/ semolina - 1/2 cup
  • sugar - 2 tbsp
  • salt 1 pinch
  • oil - 2 tbsp
  • egg - 1 beaten lightly
  • Powdered sugar - 1 cup for coating
  • oil for Deep frying

How to make Kolkols

  1. Take flour, rawa, sugar and salt in a bowl. Mix lightly.
  2. Add oil and beaten egg. Rub with fingers to mix.
  3. Add water little by little to knead to a soft dough, but not sticky.
  4. Heat oil for deep frying. Keep powdered sugar ready on a plate.
  5. Take small amount of dough, slightly bigger than a pea. Press on the reverse side of a fork. Press firmly so the indents are seen.
  6. Roll from one side, lengthwise.
  7. Make few at a time and deep fry till golden brown. Take out on absorbent paper and sprinkle powdered sugar or dip into the sugar.
  8. Store in a airtight container when cool.

My Tip:

Kulkuls can be glazed in sugar syrup if you prefer. Make a thick sugar syrup and dip the kulkuls and take out on a plate. Making kulkuls is a bit time consuming, you might want to make a small batch at a time and its nice to engage your kids and friends.
