Ingredients to make Flodni

  • maida - 1.5 cups
  • butter - 1/2 cup
  • egg - 1 tbsp
  • Cold water - 3 tbsp
  • Filling -
  • 1st filling -
  • apricot jam - 1/4 th cup
  • Chopped apricot - 1/4 th cup
  • butter - 1 tbsp
  • Roasted poppy seeds - 1 tsp
  • nutmeg powder - 1/4 th tsp
  • 2nd filling -
  • Prunes - 1/4 th cup
  • sugar - 3 tbsp
  • butter - 1 tbsp
  • 3rd filling -
  • Chopped walnuts - 1/2 cup
  • Melted dark chocolate - 1/2 cup
  • 4th filling -
  • Grated apples - 1/2 cup
  • cinnamon powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Icing sugar - 2 tbsp

How to make Flodni

  1. Mix the cold butter into the flour and add rest of the ingredients into it to form a dough.
  2. Chill it and then roll into a thin sheet, and cut into rectangular sheets and chill it in the fridge.
  3. Mix all the 1st filling ingredients together and cook to form a dry mixture.
  4. Mix all the ingredients of 2nd filling, together to form a jam like thick mix.
  5. Mix the walnuts with the chocolate and keep aside.
  6. Mix all the 3rd filling ingredients and keep aside.
  7. For assembly, In a rectangular baking tray, smear butter some and then lay one rectangular sheet.
  8. Put a layer of chocolate and walnuts.
  9. Now put another sheet of the dough and apply the apricot layer.
  10. Put one more layer of the dough sheet and put the grated apple mix on it.
  11. Now add one more layer of dough sheet and apply the prune jam on it.
  12. Add a final sheet of the dough and bake it in a preheated oven at 170 degrees Celcius for 1 hour.
  13. Chill it in the fridge for 6 hours. Cut it into pieces and serve it with cream cheese and black berries tossed in sugar, butter & wine.
