Ingredients to make Kerala netholi(Anchovy)fish curry

  • Netholi (Anchovy )fish 500gms
  • tomatoes finely chopped 1nos
  • green chillies 4 to 5 nos
  • turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • Tamrind juice 1/2 cup
  • For coconut paste mixture:
  • coconut shredded 1cup
  • shallots peeled and chopped 4 to 5 nos
  • fennel seeds 1/2 tsp
  • For Tempering:
  • shallots finely chopped 4 to 6nos
  • Meethi seeds (fenugreek seeds) 1/2tsp
  • curry leaves 2 to 4 strands

How to make Kerala netholi(Anchovy)fish curry

  1. Take a deep vessel and add tamarind juice tomatoes and green chillies all together to it and keep over high flame and cook till tomatoes and green chillies are well cooked
  2. Meanwhile take a mixer jar and add coconut,shallots and fennel seeds and grind well by adding water little by little as required to make a fine paste
  3. Now add fish to tamarind juice mixture and boil it well and add the coconut mixture to it and wait till the first boil starts
  4. When it starts to boil off the flame and keep aside
  5. Now heat a kadai and add coconut oil to it and heat well
  6. Now add methi seeds and shallots and curry leaves and fry well and add to the fish curry
  7. Now serve it hot in a bowl with rice or chapatti.

My Tip:

Dont over boil the curry after adding the coconut mixture it will spoil the taste and texture Dont add more tomatoes to it coz it will change the colour of gravy to red the gravy should be yellow in colour.
