Kerala Parippu Curry

Ingredients to make Kerala Parippu Curry

  • moong dal 1 cup
  • water 3 cups
  • turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • salt 2 tsp
  • Grated coconut 1/4 cup
  • Green chilli 2
  • cumin seeds 1 tbsp
  • ghee 2 tbsp
  • Dry red chilli 2
  • curry leaves 8 to 9
  • hing a pinch
  • mustard seeds 1 tsp

How to make Kerala Parippu Curry

  1. Dry roast moong dal.
  2. Pressure cook with water, turmeric powder and salt for 2 whistles on high.
  3. Lower flame and cook for 7 to 8 minutes more.
  4. Switch off the flame and allow pressure to drop completely.
  5. Dry roast cumin seeds and grind together with green chilies, grated coconut and a splash of water.
  6. Open the lid and churn dal with a churner for 7-8 seconds.
  7. Add grated coconut spice mix to it. Bring it to boil.
  8. Add ghee in a tempering pan. Add hing, curry leaves, mustard seeds and dry red chilies.
  9. Add the tempering to dal and boil for another minute.
  10. Switch off the flame and pour in a serving bowl.
  11. Serve with rice.
