Moong Makhani

Ingredients to make Moong Makhani

  • 150 grams whole moong
  • One small onion
  • 1 tblspn ginger paste
  • 1/2 tspn crushed garlic
  • 1 tblspn pure ghee (preferably made at home)
  • salt to taste
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • 1 tspn red chilli powder (kashmiri)
  • 1/2 tspn cumin seeds
  • 2 tspn cumin- coriander powder (I make at home more of coriander seeds and less cumin)
  • Add water enough to cook well like makhni dal

How to make Moong Makhani

  1. Soak moong for 15-20 minutes, clean water 2-3 times and soak
  2. Now chop an onion and keep aside
  3. Now in the soaked moong add salt, turmeric, ginger paste and cumin coriander powder
  4. Add at least 3-4 glasses of water in the pressure cooker and cook 15 min
  5. Do not remove the pressure till it goes itself
  6. Mean while heat pure ghee, add half tspn crushed garlic, cumin seeds.
  7. Add onions to this too to fry for tadka
  8. Open cooker and see that your moong is like soft butter blended well
  9. Remove in serving bowl
  10. On this add the golden brown onions with the red chilli powder
  11. Serve this with roti paratha or zeera rice

My Tip:

Make it fresh to enjoy taste. The texture is to be soft as makhni daal and the tadka adds the flavour
